Bluegrass Bracing provides both shoulder and knee CPMs to orthopedic surgery patients. CPM is an acronym for Continuous Passive Motion. Our CPMs are manufactured in France by Kinetec SAS and distributed throughout the United States by Kinetec USA in Wisconsin. Kinetec CPMs are durable, reliable and very easy to use. Our CPMs are delivered to patients after their orthopedic surgery and typically used for three weeks or 21 days. The patient will use the CPM 3 to 4 times per day for a few hours. Each physician has a certain CPM protocol and your Bluegrass Bracing representative will explain to you how much your physician wants you to use the CPM.
CPM rentals are a covered benefit by most insurance companies, but sometimes they are not. Bluegrass Bracing will contact your insurance company prior to delivery of the CPM in order to have the rental period pre-certified for coverage. Your Bluegrass Bracing representative will explain to you how much you may or may not owe for the rental of the CPM.
Knee CPMs are used following total knee replacement surgery or TKA. They are also used after ACL repairs, cartilage repairs and uni-compartment knee replacement surgeries. Knee CPM use is the first phase of rehabilitation after surgery. The knee CPM allows the leg to be cradled in a lamb’s wool sling and then mechanically moves the leg through a set range of motion. The CPM gently flexes the knee in order to increase mobility and decrease post-surgical pain and swelling. Several scientific studies have shown that CPM use after knee surgery helps a patient recover more quickly and with less post-surgical complications.
Shoulder CPMs are used following total shoulder replacement, rotator cuff and labral repair surgeries and manual manipulations. Shoulder CPM use is the first phase of rehabilitation after surgery. The shoulder CPM allows the shoulder joint to move in different planes including adduction/abduction, flexion/extension and internal/external rotation. The shoulder CPM is a motorized arm attached to a comfortable chair. The shoulder CPM takes up minimal space and can be used comfortably anywhere in the patient’s home. The shoulder CPM moves the arm through pre-programmed range-of-motion exercises in order to increase flexibility and decrease post-surgical pain and swelling. Several scientific studies have shown that CPM use after shoulder surgery helps a patient increase their range of motion, recover more quickly and decrease incidence of complications.
